Birminghams finest purveyors of underground House, Techno and Dubstep return with their first event of 2009! After a momentous first birthday at the Hare & Hounds, including Cog cake and some sublime visuals from resident Blendstate, The Cog returns with some extra special guests to kick off 2009 with the usual eclectic mix of electronic madness!
To celebrate a full year of parties, bbq's and art gallery raves, The Cog enlisted the help of House of God resident Sir Real who, alongside residents Dave is Dead and Hog destroyed the dancefloor with their unique blend of electronic filth!
And so the 27th February will see Birminghams very own Techno aficionado Rebekah, Tony Grainger of Resistor Records and fresh Dubstep outfit Kitbag bringing mountains of aural pleasure to your eager ears in the first Cog of 2009. This one is not to be missed!
All this great music and of course, the best atmosphere in Birmingham all for the bargain price of £3! The party starts at 9pm on the 27th of Feb.
Finale on the stuggles Detroit is going through right now....'looks more like Iraq than America'
Detroit rapper Finale is preparing to issue his new album A Pipedream And A Promise. It’s set for release via Interdependent Media this spring.Finale has gathered an impressive lineup of producers, including the late J Dilla, Black Milk, Ta’Raach, Waajeed, Dimlite, Flying Lotus, Khrysis, Nottz and Oddisee. Lyrical guest spots come from Invincible and, surprisingly, old-school legends Prince Whippa Whip from Cold Crush Brothers and Awesome Dre. Due out March....dont sleep!
More to the point were will it go next...Its been 15 years since Cd's were introduced and it was a step in the right direction...smaller and more portable than viynl, better looking and super hi-fi compared with tapes, everones a winner. Next via minidiscs and a couple other dead formats we hit mp3's .........Low quality......but more portable than a camper van. All of a sudden we favor phone and laptop speakers to hi-fi systems and a million and one mp3's with nothing but a track title over 10 page cd booklets. So what next?
Well some pretty major developers including Sony and LG have started getting there sticky fingers into a couple of new formats namley Mxp4 and Mt9. These formats simply put have all tracks used in the recording process Drums/bass/vocals/guitars ect.. stored in the file seprately. So u can choose what u want to hear or the Creator/artist will give you 3 or 4 diffrent versions of the song to listen too ie: Chillout Mix, Instrumental Mix and so on....but you will still have only one file to deal with.
There are a few un-answered questions like why and what for (which are prity huge) but if your a music buff and need more stimulation than a bunch load of low quality mp3's can offer it may be an avenue you can look into......
Been pointed to this via ukstreetart.co.uk (will tell you more about these gezzers soon) its a new add on to SHOK 1 's website entitled Shokthen a retrospective area with plenty off 35mm scans of old works by the legendary Shok 1. I think ive got a soft spot for Shok1 because i used to stumble upon his stuff in my hometown Walsall yonkers ago and was blown away then as i am now....anyway alot of these shots i recognize and might pull out my old snaps and upload a few as a result....so dont listen to me waffling on anymore and get over to www.shok1.com/shokthen/
The New album is BONKERS go get it when its released next week...Below is a track to sample its goodness..If you dont know about Zion-I they are a duo from Oakland Ohio Amplive and Rapper Zumbi they first started releasing music back in 99 and now release this one entilted ' The Takeover ' Their rainbow coalition party continues to expand and now includes guests like Devin the Dude, Brother Ali and UK emcee Ty Big!!!
A nice package through the door the other day brought to my attention a pre-release copy of the new L.P and apart from a small apperance on Jehst's Mengi Bus mixtape i hadn't heard Jyager at all so to my suprise i was more than impressed with this ex-grime Hiphop newcomer. Born in Portugal he has grown mostly in London and has made Hiphop his own since being taken on by Cee Why and prepared for his first release on YnR productions, his single Eyes open is due for release in the first quarter of 2009 followed by the release of Encrypted Scriptures which features Foreign Beggars,Kashmere,Sifu Chan,Dm,Jehst,Verb T and Kyza.
Cee Why comes with some straight up gems and the guest vocalists dont dissapoint its big. I like this and im sure its because Jyager has a more 'knowing' confidence you dont get too often, maybe its because hes grown up listening to Uk voices spitting instead of American as i have or maybe its just talent... make your own mind up weve got his mixtape New mindstate which was recorded a couple of years back for download and stream right here...and to preview his new sounds hit up his myspace page...
Found these 5 videos on youtube so compiled them into a playlist you can watch here. They make up a Documentary due to be screened on channel 4 which focus on several Video producers. This producer (Chris Cunningham) has produced music videos for some of my all time favorite artist including Squarpusher,Aphex twin,Portishead,Leftfield,Bjork to mention only a few. Born in reading and Hailing from Suffolk he first started of in film and special affects industry getting head hunted by the likes of Stanley Kubrick after animatronic work in Spitting image,Aliens 3 and Judge Dread to work on A.I. Strong ties with Warp records ensured ground breaking work with forwad thinking ground breaking Artists such as Autechre and Aphex. This is a nice 35min documentary focuses on mainly music...enjoy.
